Even when people have a statutory right to support to speak up, it is often denied to them.

That’s why I worked to promote independent advocacy, and why it’s important.

I’ve tried to raise issues relating to poor access to independent advocacy under the Mental Health Act and the Care Act.

It’s an ongoing problem and requires concerted action from advocacy organisations, health and social care staff, CQC, Department of Health and local commissioners.
